Signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between GIZ Vietnam, the Programme “Reform of TVET in Vietnam” and the Vocational College of Machinery and Irrigation (VCMI)

On 17.11.2020, representatives from GIZ Vietnam, Ms. Regina Ecker, Director of GIZ Vietnam; Dr. Juergen Hartwig, Programme Director of the Programme; Mr. Bach Hung Truong, Team Leader supporting High-quality TVET Institutes and GIZ experts visited and worked at the Vocational College of Machinery and Irrigation (VCMI) and signed the Memorandum of Understanding between GIZ Vietnam, the Programme “Reform of TVET in Vietnam” and VCMI.

Dr. Nguyen Van Chuong, Rector of VCMI presented an overview of VCMI and summarized the activities and results achieved by the ongoing project “Programme Reform of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) – Centre of Excellence (CoE) for ‘Green’ TVET and activities  supported by GIZ as well as major changes of the College after many years of project implementation. Especially, the enrollment results of the two new occupations under the project with 92 students participating in the course exceeded the set target. This shows the attention of parents and students to two new occupations in the project in particular and the attention of the society to those occupations in general.

The delegation listened to and discussed with the College’s leaders about the results of implementation and effectiveness of activities to develop training capacity for teachers, management capacity for staff, enrollment results, and the process of installation and set up for workshops, laboratories, digital transformation laboratories supported by the Programme “Reform of TVET in Vietnam”, as well as training for pilot classes.

Speaking at the meeting, Ms. Regina Ecker, Director of GIZ Vietnam was very impressed with the College’s enrollment results, and believed that VCMI could transfer experience in “Green” TVET training to institutes all over the country.

For Dr. Juergen Hartwig, Programme Director, he was impressed with the College’s transformation. “I have visited VCMI many times and have known a lot about VCMI. Especially, every time I visit VCMI, VCMI seems a new institute to me because the College changes and develops a new step”, he said.

The GIZ delegation also visited the workshop and classrooms supported by the project. In particular, the delegation also visited and met with students from 04 pilot classes of the project. Ms. Regina Ecker, Director of GIZ Vietnam and Dr. Juergen Hartwig, Programme Director asked students of the pilot classes to learn more about the reasons and purposes of their career choices in the project; classroom conditions such as classrooms, practice equipment, labor protection, … and emphasized that they would continue to monitor the class and provide the necessary support for students to successfully complete the course.The students in the course felt proud to study at the College, to join the course and believe that after graduation, they would contribute positively to the society through knowledge and skilles they had been trained.

At the end of the visit, Ms. Regina Ecker, Director of GIZ Vietnam, Dr. Juergen Hartwig, Programme Director and Dr. Nguyen Van Chuong, Rector of VCMI signed a Memorandum of Understanding between GIZ Vietnam, Programme “Reform of TVET in Vietnam” and VCMI to unify cooperation activities in the coming time, marking a new development step in the process of project cooperation.
